USA South Athletes of the Week - March 25, 2024

  • Baseball Player of the Week
    Frankie Vasquez, Brevard - The junior infielder from Pembroke Pines, Florida went a combined 9-for-16 (.563) with a .588 on-base percentage, and a 1.063 slugging percentage to go along with four runs scored, 15 RBI, two doubles, two home runs, and one walk as the Tornados took two of three games from USA South foe Pfeiffer last week. In the second game of the series, Vasquez set a new Brevard NCAA-era record and tied the USA South single-game mark by knocking in 11 runs while going 4-for-6 with three runs scored, two doubles and two home runs.     Baseball Pitcher of the Week
    Jack McIntosh, William Peace - The junior from Clayton, North Carolina tossed a complete-game shutout in his only appearance last week, an 8-0 win over USA South foe Mary Baldwin. McIntosh allowed six hits with zero walks and four strikeouts in the victory. Also Nominated: Cord Butler, N.C.     Baseball Rookie of the Week
    Brandon Mauger, Methodist - The freshman second baseman from Altamonte Springs, Florida went a combined 8-for-16 (.500) with a .600 on-base percentage, and a .813 slugging percentage to go along with six runs scored, seven RBI, two doubles, one home run, three walks, and one stolen base as the Monarchs posted a 2-2 record last week. In a 24-6 loss to Randolph-Macon, Mauger was 1-for-4 with three RBI and one run scored on his first collegiate home run. In taking two of three games from USA South foe Greensboro, Mauger was a combined 7-for-12 with five runs scored, four RBI, two doubles, three walks, and one stolen base.     Baseball Rookie Pitcher of the Week
    Ivan Delp, Pfeiffer - The freshman from Sparta, North Carolina earned the win in his only appearance last week, a 13-8 victory over USA South foe Brevard. Delp tossed the first five innings and allowed five runs (four earned) on eight hits with one walk and one strikeout. Also Nominated: Chase Smith, Southern Virginia.

  • Softball Player of the Week
    Alexis Sox, Greensboro - The senior first baseman from Burlington, North Carolina went a combined 6-for-10 (.600) with a .636 on-base percentage, and a 1.200 slugging percentage as the Pride swept a doubleheader from Guilford in the team's only contests last week. Sox compiled four runs scored, six RBI, three doubles, one home run, and one walk in the two games.     Softball Pitcher of the Week
    Emily McCreery, Mary Baldwin - The senior from Chesapeake, Virginia posted a 2-0 record over two complete-game appearances last week for the Fighting Squirrels. McCreery tossed 14.0 innings and accumulated a 1.93 ERA while striking out ten batters compared to five walks. In a 7-0 win over Sweet Briar, McCreery pitched a complete-game shutout, allowing four hits and three walks with seven strikeouts. In a 4-3 victory over USA South foe Methodist, McCreery again went the distance allowing three runs on seven hits with two walks and three strikeouts.     Softball Rookie of the Week
    McKenzie Tillman, Mary Baldwin - The freshman utility player from Stuarts Draft, Virginia went a combined 6-for-9 (.667) with a .750 on-base percentage, and a 1.000 slugging percentage to go along with one run scored, one run batted in, three doubles, and two walks as the Fighting Squirrels posted  2-1 record last week. In a 7-0 win over Sweet Briar, Tillman was 2-for-3 with one walk. In a doubleheader split with USA South foe Methodist, Tillman was a combined 4-for-6 with one run scored, one run batted in, three doubles, and one walk.     Softball Rookie Pitcher of the Week
    Katherine Charlton, Greensboro - The freshman from Chesapeake, Virginia appeared in one game last week, earning a complete-game victory over Guilford. In the 14-4 win, Charlton allowed four runs on eight hits with four walks and five strikeouts. Also Nominated: Emmaline DeGroot, Southern Virginia.

  • Men's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week
    Clay Haacke, Southern Virginia - The sophomore midfielder from Syracuse, Utah totaled ten goals and one assist with two ground balls as the Hawks posted a 1-1 record last week. In a 10-7 loss to Berry, Haacke scored three times with one assist and one ground ball. In a 22-2 victory over USA South foe Brevard, Haacke posted seven goals with one ground ball.     Men's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week
    Kaleb Simpson, Methodist - The sophomore faceoff specialist from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina was 15-of-21 on faceoffs with eight ground balls as the Monarchs posted a 16-10 win over USA South rival LaGrange in their only contest last week.     Men's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week
    Davis Russell, Pfeiffer - The freshman defender from Charlotte, North Carolina caused six turnovers and collected four ground balls in the team's only contest last week, an 11-8 victory over USA South foe Piedmont. Also Nominated: Jameson Doll, Greensboro; Andrew Jbara, Huntingdon; Graham Clausen, Methodist; Tyson Mauri, Southern Virginia; Joseph Whitmore, Piedmont.

  • Women's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week
    Ava Trankina, Piedmont - The junior midfielder from Johns Creek, Georgia totaled six goals, eight assists, 12 draw controls, six ground balls, and five caused turnovers as the Lions posted a 1-1 record last week. In a 15-13 loss to Centre, Trankina scored three times with two assists, seven draw controls, two ground balls, and two caused turnovers. In a 16-8 victory over USA South foe Pfeiffer, Trankina posted three goals, six assists, five draw controls, four ground balls, and three caused turnovers.     Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week
    Merryn Bumpass, Piedmont - The junior attack from Keller, Texas collected seven ground balls and caused four turnovers to go along with eight goals, in a 1-1 week for the Lions. In a 15-13 loss to Centre, Bumpass totaled one ground ball and one caused turnover while scoring four times. In a 16-8 victory over USA South foe Pfeiffer, Bumpass grabbed six ground balls and caused three turnovers to go along with four goals scored. Also Nominated: Elizabeth Todd, Huntingdon; Jordan Pendergraft, Pfeiffer; Grace Dobson, Greensboro; Roxy Lebaron, Southern Virginia.

    Women's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week
    Savannah Limehouse, Piedmont - The freshman midfielder from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina totaled seven goals and one assists with six draw controls, two ground balls, and caused turnover in a 1-1 week for the Lions. In a 15-13 loss to Centre, Limehouse scored four times with one assist, three draw controls, two ground balls, and one caused turnover. In a 16-8 victory over USA South foe Pfeiffer, Limehouse totaled three goals and three draw controls. Also Nominated: Arianna Casertano, Brevard; Kylie Clune, Huntingdon; Cerys Reid, Pfeiffer.

  • Men's Tennis Player of the Week
    Albert Sitwell, N.C. Wesleyan - The sophomore from Wotton-under-edge, United Kingdom earned a 3-0 singles and doubles record last week against opponents from William Peace, Stevens, and #13 Swarthmore. In singles, Sitwell earned wins at the number-one, -three, and -four spots while at the number-one doubles position, he teamed with Diego Segovia to grab the three victories.     Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week
    Hayden LeBlanc, Brevard - The freshman from Zachary, Louisiana earned a 1-0 singles record with a 2-0 doubles mark, all at the top-spots, last week against USA South foe William Peace. In singles, LeBlanc earned a three-set win while in doubles, teamed with Bryce Bernitt, the pair collected two wins over Pacer opposition. Also Nominated: Harry Crokam, Methodist; Jayden Wellman, Pfeiffer.

    Men's Tennis Doubles Team of the Week
    Diego Segovia and Albert Sitwell, N.C. Wesleyan - The Battling Bishop duo earned a 3-0 record at the number-one spot last week with wins over opponents from William Peace, Stevens, and #13 Swarthmore. Also Nominated: Bryce Bernitt and Hayden LeBlanc, Brevard; Mathuis Dessureau and Benedikt Pfeiffer, Pfeiffer.

  • Women's Tennis Player of the Week
    Toni Laney, Methodist - The senior from Catawba, North Carolina earned a 3-0 singles record with a 2-1 doubles mark last week at the top-spots for the Monarchs against opposition from USA South foes Pfeiffer and Salem as well as Goucher. In doubles, she teamed with Veva Willocks to collect victories over Goucher and Salem. Also Nominated: Elisa Mariotti, N.C. Wesleyan; Megan Rekieta, Pfeiffer; Paula Snelson, Southern Virginia; Kala Price, William Peace.

    Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week
    Emma Hulicki, Methodist - The freshman from Raleigh, North Carolina earned 3-0 singles and doubles records, all at the number-two spots, last week for the Monarchs over opposition from USA South foes Pfeiffer and Salem as well as Goucher. In doubles, she teamed with Annabelle Subirats to collect the three victories. Also Nominated: Ivanna Torres, N.C. Wesleyan; Haley Ingenito, Pfeiffer; Lydia Delich, Southern Virginia; Kala Price, William Peace.

    Women's Tennis Doubles Team of the Week
    Megan Rekieta and Alison Sloop, Pfeiffer - The Falcon duo earned a 2-0 record at the number-one spot last week with wins over opposition from USA South foe Methodist, as well as Johnson and Wales. Also Nominated: Emma Hulicki and Annabelle Subirats, Methodist; Elisa Mariotti and Cristina Mendoza Romero, N.C. Wesleyan; Jillian Arnold and Paula Snelson, Southern Virginia; Kala Price and Camryn Straughn, William Peace.

  • Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week
    Devon Brodmyer, Brevard - The senior from Marietta, Georgia competed at the Montreat Invitational last week in two events. In the 1,500 meters, Broadmyer posted a time of 4:08.80 while in the 800 meters, he finished in a time of 1:58.50. Also Nominated: Austin Ezzell, Methodist; Shevaun Daley, Pfeiffer; Sharif Blount, William Peace.

    Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week
    Jaxsen Wilkerson, Brevard - The sophomore from Granite Falls, North Carolina competed at the Montreat Invitational last week in two events. In the triple jump, Wilkerson posted the top result so far in the conference this season with a 13.88-meter effort. In the long jump, Wilkerson's best effort was 6.62 meters. Also Nominated: Shomare Hazley, Methodist; Desmond Branes, N.C. Wesleyan.

    Men's Outdoor Track Rookie of the Week
    Shevaun Daley, Pfeiffer - The freshman from Apopka, Florida competed at the Elon Invitational last week in three events, producing the top time in the conference so far this year in each. In the 200 meters, his time of 21.63 is the best in the South Region thus far. In the 100 meters, Daley finished in a time of 10.89 while in the 400 meters, he completed the race in a time of 50.49.     Men's Outdoor Field Rookie of the Week
    Kellun Triplett, Brevard - The freshman from Fayetteville, North Carolina competed at the Montreat Invitational last week in two events. In the long jump, Triplett's best result was 6.27 meters while in the triple jump, he posted a mark of 13.54 meters. Also Nominated: Hunter Johnson, Pfeiffer.

  • Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week
    Channing Barker, Brevard - The senior from Dunlap, Tennessee competed at the Montreat Invitational last week in two events. In the 800 meters, Barker completed the course in a time of 2:21.83 while in the 1,500 meters, Barker completed the race in a time of 4:53.57. Also Nominated: Delaney Bundy, Meredith; Ti'Asia Bryant, N.C. Wesleyan; Madison Lowery, Pfeiffer.

    Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week
    Makayla Street, Brevard - The sophomore from Rock Hill, South Carolina competed at the Montreat Invitational last week in two events. In the high jump, Street posted  result of 1.57 meters which is the top mark in the conference so far this season. In the long jump, Street's best effort was 4.83 meters. Also Nominated: Christian Van Norden, N.C. Wesleyan; Majesty Smith, William Peace.

    Women's Outdoor Track Rookie of the Week
    Ti'Asia Bryant, N.C. Wesleyan - The freshman from Kinston, North Carolina competed in three events at the Mount Olive Adidas Challenge last week. In the 100 meters, Bryant posted a time of 11.95 while in the 200 meters, she finished the race in a time of 25.70. Finally, Bryant was a member of the 4x400 meter relay team. Also Nominated: Kayla Jean, Brevard; Delaney Bundy, Brevard; Katelyn Lentz, Pfeiffer.

    Women's Outdoor Field Rookie of the Week
    Paris Bennett, Pfeiffer - The freshman from New London, North Carolina competed in two events at the Elon Invitational last week. In the shot put, Bennett posted a mark of 10.44 meters while in the discus, her best effort was 25.31 meters. Also Nominated: None.
