USA South Athletes of the Week - March 11, 2024

  • Baseball Player of the Week
    Wilson Lohrer, Pfeiffer - The junior first baseman from Charlotte, North Carolina went a combined 8-for-13 (.615) with a .643 on-base percentage, and a .769 slugging percentage to go along with four runs scored, three RBI, two doubles, three sacrifice hits, and one walk as the Falcons posted a 2-1 record last week. In a 12-11 loss to Muskingum, Lohrer was 4-for-5 with one run scored and one sacrifice hit. In a doubleheader sweep of Allegheny, Lohrer was a combined 4-for-8 with three runs scored, three RBI, two doubles, two sacrifice hits, and one walk.     Baseball Pitcher of the Week
    Aaron McInvale, Greensboro - The junior from Austin, Texas posted a victory in his only appearance last week, a 9-5 win over Rochester. McInvale tossed the first 6.1 innings, allowing five runs (four earned) on five hits with one walk and five strikeouts. Also Nominated: None.

    Baseball Rookie of the Week
    Nico Bartolotti, Brevard - The freshman infielder from Lake Wylie, South Carolina went a combined 3-for-7 (.429) with a .556 on-base percentage, and a .571 slugging percentage to go along with two runs scored, one run batted in, one double, and two walks as the Tornados posted a doubleheader split against Berea.     Baseball Rookie Pitcher of the Week
    Blake Altschuler, Brevard - The freshman from Concord, North Carolina tossed the first four innings of an 11-5 loss to Berea in his only appearance last week. Altschuler allowed one unearned run on four hits with two walks and three strikeouts in the no-decision. Also Nominated: Ivan Delp, Pfeiffer; Ian Bast, Greensboro.

  • Softball Player of the Week
    Gracie Griffin, Pfeiffer - The junior utility player from Calabash, North Carolina went a combined 11-for-20 (.550) with a .609 on-base percentage, and a .900 slugging percentage to go along with eight runs scored, seven RBI, one home run, four doubles, was hit by two pitches, and one walk as the Falcons posted a 6-0 record last week. In a doubleheader sweep of Randolph, Griffin was a combined 3-for-5 with one run scored, one run batted in, two doubles, and was hit by two pitches. In a doubleheader sweep of Oberlin, Griffin was a combined 5-for-7 with three runs scored, one run batted in, and two doubles. Finally, in a doubleheader sweep of Elmira, Griffin was a combined 3-for-8 with four runs scored, five RBI, and one walk.     Softball Pitcher of the Week
    Kali Morton, Pfeiffer - The senior from Mooresville, North Carolina posted a 3-0 record over three appearances, all starts, last week for the Falcons. Morton tossed 14.0 innings and accumulated a 0.64 ERA while striking out 22 batters compared to four walks. Morton's lone complete game of the week came in a 3-1 win over Randolph as she allowed one run on four hits with 14 strikeouts. The other two wins came against Oberlin and Elmira.     Emily Dickerson, Pfeiffer - The freshman infielder from Blacksburg, Virginia went a combined 6-for-13 (.462) with a .533 on-base percentage, and a .769 slugging percentage to go along with three runs scored, four RBI, four doubles, and two walks as the Falcons posted a 6-0 record last week. In a doubleheader sweep of Randolph, Dickerson was a combined 2-for-4 with one run batted in, one double, and one walk. In a doubleheader sweep of Oberlin, Dickerson was a combined 2-for-4 with two runs scored, one run batted in, one double, and one walk. Finally, in a doubleheader sweep of Elmira, Dickerson was a combined 2-for-5 with one run scored, two RBI, and two doubles.     Softball Rookie Pitcher of the Week
    Katherine Charlton, Greensboro - The freshman from Chesapeake, Virginia appeared in three games last week, earning no decisions in each of them, two of which were starts, and posted a 5.93 ERA. Facing Ferrum, Rhode Island College, and Denison, Charlton tossed 9.1 innings with two strikeouts. Also Nominated: None.

  • Men's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week
    Will Beyer, Greensboro - The senior attackman from Greensboro, North Carolina totaled ten goals, seven assists, and one ground ball as the Pride posted a 1-1 record last week. In a 13-10 loss to Penn College, Beyer scored five goals with two assists. In a 19-7 victory over Randolph, Beyer totaled five goals and assists with one ground ball.     Men's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week
    Eric Fewell, Piedmont - The junior defender from Peachtree City, Georgia caused a career-high five turnovers with one ground ball in the Lions' only contest last week, a 16-7 win over Muskingum. Also Nominated: Jack Hicks, Brevard; Edward Rowley, Greensboro; Kaleb Simpson, Methodist.

    Men's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week
    Ethan Miles, Pfeiffer - The freshman attackman from Charlotte, North Carolina totaled six goals, ten assists, five ground balls, and two caused turnovers as the Flacons posted a 1-2 record last week. In the lone win,  23-7 over Hiram, Miles scored three goals with seven assists, three ground balls, and two caused turnovers. Also Nominated: Jameson Doll, Greensboro; Graham Clausen, Methodist; Joseph Whitmore, Piedmont; Mason Hufstetler, LaGrange; Tyler Cameron, Brevard.

  • Women's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week
    Julia Barbato, Pfeiffer - The senior attack from West Chester, Pennsylvania totaled eight goals, six assists, 12 draw controls, five ground balls, and three caused turnovers as the Falcons posted a 1-1 record last week. In a 22-8 loss to Baldwin Wallace, Barbato scored twice with three assists, seven draw controls, one ground ball, and one caused turnover. In a 15-3 victory over Sweet Briar, Barbato totaled six goals, three assists, five draw controls, four ground balls, and two caused turnovers.     Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week
    Meagan Cox, Methodist - The senior defender from Wake Forest, North Carolina totaled six caused turnovers and five ground balls in a 2-0 week for the Monarchs with wins over Aurora and Virginia Wesleyan. All of Cox's statistics came in the 14-5 victory over Virginia Wesleyan as she caused a career-high six turnovers and matched a career-high with five ground balls without turning the ball over herself.     Women's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week
    Kenzie Todd, Meredith - The freshman attacker from Brookfield, Connecticut totaled four goals with two ground balls in the lone contest last week for the Avenging Angels, an 11-9 win over Aurora. Also Nominated: Madi Norris, Brevard; Cerys Reid, Pfeiffer; Anna Tabarrini, Methodist.

  • Men's Tennis Player of the Week
    Sam Jones, William Peace - The senior from Clayton, North Carolina earned a singles and doubles win, both at the top-spots, in the team's only contest over the past two weeks. Against opponents from Guilford, Jones earned a straight-set singles win while also teaming with Ben Fleming to grab a doubles victory. Also Nominated: Jayden Wellman, Pfeiffer; Logan Stoltz, N.C. Wesleyan.

    Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week
    Jayden Wellman, Pfeiffer - The freshman from Kannapolis, North Carolina earned a 3-0 singles and doubles record over the past two weeks with wins over opponents from Baldwin Wallace, Penn State Harrisburg, and Gordon. Wellman picked up two singles wins at the number-three position with one at the number-two spot. In doubles, he teamed with Mateo Sonaglia to earn three victories, all at the number-three spot.     Men's Tennis Doubles Team of the Week
    Mathius Dessureau and Benedikt Pfeiffer, Pfeiffer - The Falcon duo earned a 3-0 record at the number-one spot over the past two weeks. The wins came against opponents from Baldwin Wallace, Penn State Harrisburg, and Gordon. Also Nominated: Ben Fleming and Sam Jones, William Peace; Wills Belser and Drew Guarnieri, Methodist.

  • Women's Tennis Player of the Week
    Haley Ingenito, Pfeiffer - The freshman from Brick, New Jersey earned 4-0 singles and doubles records over the past two weeks for the Falcons against opposition from Mount Vernon Nazarene, Penn State Harrisburg, Randolph, and Lancaster Bible. In singles, Ingenito earned one win at the top-spot, two at the number-three position, and one at the number-four flight. In doubles, she teamed with Kristen Colie at the number-three position to collect the four victories. Also Nominated: Camryn Straughn, William Peace; Andrea Elaez Miranda, N.C. Wesleyan.
