USA South Announces 2025 Hall of Fame Class

The USA South Athletic Conference is pleased to announce its 2025 Hall of Fame Class. The four inductees, three former student-athletes and a former coach, represent three different institutions. These individuals, along with the 2024 USA South Hall of Fame Class, will be officially celebrated during a ceremony which will take place in Greensboro, North Carolina on Sunday, August 3rd. The 2025 USA South Hall of Fame Inductees:

  • Jessica Long Carter was a four-year member of the Averett softball team from 2014-2017. Carter was a two-time USA South Player of the Year while also being named Rookie of the Year in her first season. Carter was a three-time National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-American and a four-time NFCA All-Region performer. A four-time first team All-Conference honoree, Carter helped Averett to two NCAA Tournament appearances, one USA South Tournament title, and one League regular season championship. In 2017, Carter was named the USA South's Female Don Scalf Award Winner and Rita Wiggs Women of the Year honoree, the highest honors a student-athlete can receive in the Conference. Carter is the current USA South career record holder for runs scored (201), hits (255), triples (tied with 19), and total bases (394). She holds each of those career marks at Averett while also adding the record for career batting average (.444). Additionally in 2017, Carter was named Averett's Barbara Kushubar Female Student-Athlete of the Year. Finally, Carter was inducted into the Averett Athletics Hall of Fame as a member of the 2024 class.

  • Aimee (Gibbs) Cunningham was a standout on the Christopher Newport women's cross country team from 2000-2003. Cunningham was a four-time Conference Meet champion, the first and still only runner in League history to accomplish this feat. She was a four-time Conference Runner of the Year, as well as the Rookie of the Year in her first year in Newport News, while helping the Captains to four League titles. Cunningham qualified for the NCAA Division III National Meet four times, the only runner in Christopher Newport women's cross country program history to do so. She earned All-Region honors four times and was a three-time Academic All-District First Team member. Cunningham was twice named the recipient of the USA South's Female Don Scalf Award, the highest honor for a student-athlete in the Conference. She is just one of three individuals to collect two Scalf accolades in Conference history. Finally, Cunningham was inducted into the Christopher Newport Athletics Hall of Fame as a part of the 2012 class.

  • Dr. Quincy Malloy was a star on the Methodist football squad from 1998-2001. Malloy was the 2001 Conference Defensive Player of the Year while being named to the All-Conference team twice. Additionally, Malloy was a two-time All-American, which included First Team accolades in 2001. He holds the Conference and Methodist single-season records for sacks (14) and tackles-for-loss (34) in addition to the Monarch program career marks for sacks (24) and tackles-for-loss (67). Off the field, Malloy was a 2001 American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) National Good Works Team Member. Following his collegiate career, he played professionally in arena football for three different organizations. Malloy is still serving the Monarchs today as the institution's Vice President for Engagement, Community and Belonging. Finally, in 2011, he was inducted into the Methodist University Athletic Hall of Fame and in 2014 was selected to the USA South's 50th Anniversary Football team.

  • Steve Shaw was the head men's soccer coach at Christopher Newport for 23 seasons from 1996-2018, 16 of those campaigns within the USA South. During his time in the Conference, Shaw accumulated an 86-16-5 (.827) League record to go along with a 237-86-21 (.791) overall mark. For his career, Shaw won 319 total games with a .724 winning percentage which currently ranks 25th all-time in Division III. He was an eight-time USA South Coach of the Year and a four-time Region Coach of the Year. Shaw's teams captured eight USA South regular season crowns along with three League Tournament titles. He made nine total trips, seven while in the USA South, to the NCAA Division III Tournament, reaching the quarterfinal round four times. Shaw coached seven All-Americans and 38 All-Region selections while with the Captains. Off the pitch, Shaw served the Christopher Newport campus as a Spanish instructor. Finally, in 2020, he was included into the Christopher Newport Athletics Hall of Fame.
