USA South Athletes of the Week - March 31, 2025

  • Baseball Player of the Week
    Mike Rinaldi, Greensboro - The junior infielder from Wynnewood, Pennsylvania went a combined 8-for-15 (.533) with a .556 on-base percentage, and a 1.333 slugging percentage to go along with six runs scored, 11 RBI, four home runs, three walks, and one stolen base as the Pride posted a 3-1 record last week. In a 12-5 loss to third-ranked Lynchburg, Rinaldi was 1-for-4. In a three-game sweep of USA South foe William Peace, Rinaldi was a combined 7-for-11 with six runs scored, 11 RBI, four home runs, three walks, and one stolen base.     Baseball Pitcher of the Week
    Zack Geertsen, Southern Virginia - The junior from Draper, Utah appeared in one game, a start, and earned a complete-game win against USA South foe Pfeiffer last week. Geertsen went the distance, allowing just one unearned run on ten hits with zero walks and three strikeouts. Also Nominated: Zack Bird, Greensboro; Jacob Thompson, Brevard; Ian Swanson, Methodist.

    Baseball Rookie of the Week
    Tyler Kelson, Brevard - The freshman outfielder from Duluth, Georgia went a combined 3-for-7 (.429) with a .429 on-base percentage, and a .571 slugging percentage in the two games he appeared in last week for the Tornados, both victories over USA South foe N.C. Wesleyan. Kelson also added one run scored, two RBI, one double during the week as well as the game-winning single in the bottom of the tenth inning of the first game of the three-game series with the Battling Bishops.     Baseball Rookie Pitcher of the Week
    Ian Swanson, Methodist - The freshman from Tallahassee, Florida appeared in one game last week, a start against USA South foe Mary Baldwin, and came away with a no-decision even after exiting the game with a 7-1 lead. Swanson tossed 6.2 innings and allowed two unearned runs on three hits with one walk and seven strikeouts. Also Nominated: Zack Bird, Greensboro; Trent Lowe, Pfeiffer.

  • Softball Player of the Week
    Landry Stewart, Pfeiffer - The junior outfielder from China Grove, North Carolina went a combined 7-for-11 (.636) with a .733 on-base percentage, and a .727 slugging percentage to go along with eight runs scored, one run batted in, one double, four walks, and nine stolen bases in a 4-0 week for the Falcons against USA South opposition. In a doubleheader sweep of Meredith, Stewart was a combined 3-for-4 with four runs scored, one double, four walks, and three stolen bases. In a doubleheader sweep of Salem, Stewart was a combined 4-for-7 with four runs scored, one run batted in, and six stolen bases.     Softball Pitcher of the Week
    Emma Bullin, Pfeiffer - The senior from Ararat, North Carolina appeared and started in four games last week for the Falcons, all against USA South foes, posting a 4-0 record with a 0.75 ERA. In 18.2 total innings, Bullin allowed two runs on ten hits with two walks and 18 strikeouts in victories over Meredith and Salem. In the first game against Meredith, Bullin tossed a complete-game shutout while in the first game against Salem, she helped the Falcons combine for a five-inning no-hitter.     Softball Rookie of the Week
    Savannah Bain, N.C. Wesleyan - The freshman infielder from Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina went a combined 6-for-15 (.400) with a .438 on-base percentage, and a .467 slugging percentage to go along with five runs scored, three RBI, one double, one walk, and two stolen bases in a 3-1 week for the Battling Bishops. In a doubleheader split with Guilford, Bain was a combined 3-for-9 with two runs scored, two RBI, and one double. In a doubleheader sweep of USA South foe Southern Virginia, Bain was a combined 3-for-6 with three runs scored, one run batted in, one walk, and two stolen bases.     Softball Rookie Pitcher of the Week
    Addyson Romanczyk, N.C. Wesleyan - The freshman from Grandy, North Carolina appeared in one game last week in relief, earning a win over Guilford. Romanczyk tossed 1.2 innings, allowing one run on five hits with zero walks and one strikeout. Also Nominated: Taelor Ware, Southern Virginia.

  • Men's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week
    Andrew Brown, Pfeiffer - The junior attackman from Metairie, Louisiana totaled 11 points on six goals and five assists, to go along with one ground ball and one caused turnover, in the team's lone contest last week, a 23-7 win at USA South foe Huntingdon. Also Nominated: Jay Legg, Methodist; Ian Parr, Piedmont; Clay Haacke, Southern Virginia; Jamar Bell, William Peace; Michael Peters, Brevard; Justin Barry, Greensboro; Kelcey Marston, Huntingdon.

    Men's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week
    Derrick Buchanan, William Peace - The freshman long-stick midfielder from Midway Park, North Carolina totaled nine ground balls and caused seven turnovers as the Pacers posted a 1-1 record last week against USA South competition. In an 18-7 loss to Methodist, Buchanan grabbed two ground balls and caused two turnovers. In a 19-13 win over Brevard, Buchanan totaled seven ground balls and five caused turnovers to go along with one assist.     Men's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week
    Jay Legg, Methodist - The freshman attackman from Holly Springs, North Carolina totaled 11 points on eight goals and three assists to go along with seven ground balls as the Monarchs posted a 2-0 record last week against USA South foes. In an 18-7 win over William Peace, Legg scored three times with two assists and a career-high five ground balls. In a 16-4 victory over LaGrange, Legg totaled five goals, one assist, and two ground balls.   • Women's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week
    Reese Walker, Meredith - The junior attacker from Fayetteville, North Carolina totaled 18 points on nine goals and ten assists, with three ground balls and three caused turnovers, as the Avenging Angels posted a 2-0 week. In a 23-1 win over USA South foe N.C. Wesleyan, Walker scored four times with five assists and two caused turnovers. In a 22-5 victory over Hood, Walker totaled five goals, five assists, three ground balls, and one caused turnover.     Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week
    Kennedy Martin, Methodist - The senior midfielder from Wilmington, North Carolina totaled nine draw controls, three ground balls, and two caused turnovers, as well as two goals and one assist, in the team's lone contest last week, a 23-0 shutout of USA South foe Pfeiffer. Also Nominated: Ellie Patterson, Southern Virginia; Clara Welch, Piedmont; Madi Horrell, Meredith.

    Women's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week
    Brynly ManWaring, Greensboro - The freshman midfielder from Greenville, South Carolina totaled eight points on seven goals and one assist to go along with nine draw controls, four caused turnovers, and two ground balls in a 1-1 week for the Pride. In a 19-4 loss to Guilford, ManWaring scored once with three draw controls, and one caused turnover. In a 13-10 win over USA South foe William Peace, ManWaring scored six times with one assist, six draw controls, three caused turnovers, and two ground balls.   • Men's Tennis Player of the Week
    Matthew Hurley, Methodist - The junior from Faulconbridge, New South Wales, Australia posted a 3-0 singles and doubles record last week for the Monarchs. In singles, at the number-one spot, Hurley defeated opponents from Guilford, Pfeiffer, and Montreat. In doubles, at the number-two position, he teamed with Decklan Rayner to grab the three victories.     Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week
    Aissultan Mukhambetov, Pfeiffer - The freshman from Astana, Kazakhstan earned a singles win at the number-four position in the only contest for the Falcons last week, a match-up with USA South foe Methodist. Also Nominated: Ethan Carlyle, Methodist.

    Men's Tennis Doubles Team of the Week
    Mathius Dessureau and Benedikt Pfeiffer, Pfeiffer - The Falcon duo earned a win at the number-one doubles spot in the team's lone contest last week, a match-up against USA South foe Methodist. Also Nominated: Matthew Hurley and Decklan Rayner, Methodist.

  • Women's Tennis Player of the Week
    Emma Hulicki, Methodist - The sophomore from Raleigh, North Carolina earned a singles and doubles win, both at the number-one spots, in the team's only match last week, a victory over USA South rival Meredith. In doubles, Hulicki teamed with Annabelle Subirats for the win. Also Nominated: Madison Bowen, Brevard; Haley Ingenito, Pfeiffer.

    Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week
    Fanny Apostolou, Pfeiffer - The freshman from Venezuela earned a singles win at the number-four position in the team's lone contest last week, a victory over USA South foe Salem. Also Nominated: Casey Wampler, Brevard; Madelyn Parker, Methodist.

    Women's Tennis Doubles Team of the Week
    Emma Hulicki and Annabelle Subirats, Methodist - The Monarch duo earned a win at the number-one spot last week in their only match, a 6-3 victory over their opponents from USA South foe Meredith. Also Nominated: Sydney Cohen and Riley Isley, Pfeiffer.

  • Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week
    Shevaun Daley, Pfeiffer - The sophomore from Apopka, Florida competed in three events at the Livingstone Blue Bear Invitational last week. In the 200 meters, Daley posted a time of 21.53 which currently ranks 15th in all of Division III. In the 400 meters, Daley completed the race in the 16th-best time in Division III thus far, 48.32. He also was a part of the 4x100 meter relay team. Also Nominated: Owen Plucar, Brevard; Logan Wade, Methodist; Ryan Pascual, Southern Virginia.

    Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week
    David Dennis, Methodist - The sophomore from Orlando, Florida competed at the Livingstone Blue Bear Invitational last week in two events. In the long jump, Dennis posted a personal best mark of 6.81 meters which ranks 22nd in Division III. In the triple jump, Dennis' effort of 12.84 meters is the 70th-best mark in Division III thus far. Also Nominated: Cameron Eubanks, Brevard; Drake Stewart, Pfeiffer; Nolan Opp, Southern Virginia.

    Men's Outdoor Track Rookie of the Week
    Ryan Pascual, Southern Virginia - The freshman from Fair Lawn, New Jersey competed in two events at the Bridgewater Doc Jopson Invitational last week. In the 400 meters, Pascual posted a personal best time of 49.56, placing first in the event. Pascual was also a member of the 4x100 meter relay team.     Men's Outdoor Field Rookie of the Week
    Jordan Jones, Pfeiffer - The sophomore, in his first season of outdoor track and field, from Greenville, South Carolina competed in the long jump at the Livingstone Blue Bear Invitational last week, posting the 28th-best mark thus far in Division III, 21.53 meters. Also Nominated: Cameron Eubanks, Brevard; McCormick Johnson, Southern Virginia.

  • Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week
    Folole Torres, Southern Virginia - The senior from Laie, Hawaii competed in two events at the Bridgewater Doc Jopson Invitational last week. In the 100 meter hurdles, Torres set a new personal best and broke the program record with a time of 15.45. In the 400 meter hurdles, Torres finished in a time of 1:06.99.     Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week
    Jilane Pedersen, Southern Virginia - The senior from St. Louis, Missouri competed in the javelin at the Bridgewater Doc Jopson Invitational last week, posting a best throw of 28.16 meters. Also Nominated: Athena Mowatt, Meredith; Rebecca McGaughnea, Methodist.

    Women's Outdoor Track Rookie of the Week
    Mesiyah Howell, Pfeiffer - The freshman from China Grove, North Carolina competed in two events at the Livingstone Blue Bear Invitational last week in two events. In the 200 meters, Howell recorded a personal-best time of 26.08 while in the 400 meters, she set a new program record with a time of 59.68. Also Nominated: Sarah Bare, Brevard; Abigail Clayton, Meredith; Jasmine De Souza, Southern Virginia.

    Women's Outdoor Field Rookie of the Week
    Athena Mowatt, Meredith - The sophomore, in her first season of outdoor track and field, from Lowell, Massachusetts, competed two events at the Mt. Olive Adidas Trojan Challenge last week. In the shot put, Mowatt set a new program record with a toss of 11.00 meters. In the javelin, Mowatt's best effort was 28.16 meters.
