USA South Athletes of the Week - April 14, 2025

  • Baseball Player of the Week
    Colin Scoggins, N.C. Wesleyan - The senior from Durham, North Carolina went a combined 7-for-10 (.700) with a .786 on-base percentage, and a 1.300 slugging percentage to go along with four runs scored, eight RBI, one double, one triple, one home run, and four walks last week as the Battling Bishops took two of three from USA South rival Methodist.     Baseball Pitcher of the Week
    Jackson Kuhn, Methodist - The junior from Foxfire, North Carolina appeared in one game out of the bullpen last week and earned the win in a 10-4 victory over USA South rival N.C. Wesleyan. In four scoreless innings, Kuhn allowed just one hit with one walk and five strikeouts. Also Nominated: Zack Bird, Greensboro; Aaron Burchett, Brevard; Caleb Dennis, N.C. Wesleyan.

    Baseball Rookie of the Week
    Brady Williams, N.C. Wesleyan - The freshman left fielder from Moyock, North Carolina went a combined 3-for-11 (.273) with a .250 on-base percentage, and a .273 slugging percentage to go along with one run scored and three RBI last week as the Battling Bishops took two of three from USA South rival Methodist.     Baseball Rookie Pitcher of the Week
    Zack Bird, Greensboro - The freshman from Apollo Beach, Florida appeared in one game last week and earned the win in a 22-1 victory over USA South foe Brevard. Bird went the distance in the seven-inning contest, allowing one run on four hits with two walks and seven strikeouts.   • Softball Player of the Week
    Kyiah Simmons, N.C. Wesleyan - The junior from Henderson, North Carolina went a combined 3-for-4 (.750) with an .833 on-base percentage, and a 1.750 slugging percentage to go along with two runs scored, three RBI, one double, one home run, and two walks for the Battling Bishops last week while sweeping USA South foe Brevard.     Softball Pitcher of the Week
    Morgan Aycock, N.C. Wesleyan - The junior from Clayton, North Carolina appeared in one game last week and earned a complete-game shutout win in an 8-0 victory over USA South foe Brevard. Aycock went the distance in the six-inning contest, allowing just one hit with no walks and six strikeouts.     Taylor Byrd, William Peace - The freshman from Burlington, North Carolina went a combined 4-for-5 (..800) with an .800 on-base percentage, and a 1.000 slugging percentage to go along with one run scored, three RBI, and one double as the Pacers swept a doubleheader from USA South foe Salem last week.   • Men's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week
    Tyson Mauri, Southern Virginia - The sophomore attackman from Farmington, Utah totaled 18 points on eight goals and ten assists, to go along with 14 ground balls in a 2-0 week for the Knights against USA South competition. In a 23-4 win at Brevard, Mauri scored four goals with seven assists and seven ground balls. In an 18-7 victory at LaGrange, Mauri again scored four times with three assists and seven ground balls.     Men's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week
    Lee Caldwell, Pfeiffer - The graduate student faceoff specialist from Greenville, South Carolina was 29-for-35 (.829) at the “X” with 13 ground balls for the Falcons in a 3-0 week. In a 13-11 win over USA South rival Methodist, Caldwell was 14-for-20 in faceoffs with six ground balls. In two wins over Warren Wilson and USA South foe William Peace, Caldwell was a perfect 15-for-15 at the “X” with seven total ground balls.     Men's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week
    JC Winterton, Southern Virginia - The freshman midfielder from Charlottesville, Virginia totaled 14 points on eight goals and six assists to go along with eight ground balls and one caused turnover in a 2-0 week for the Knights against USA South competition. In a 23-4 win at Brevard, Winterton scored five goals with five assists, five ground balls, and one caused turnover. In an 18-7 victory at LaGrange, Winterton totaled three goals, one assist, and three ground balls. Also Nominated: Dylan Sullivan, Pfeiffer; Quinton Solomon, Greensboro; Jay Legg, Methodist.

  • Women's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week
    Kenzie Poulsen, Southern Virginia - The sophomore attacker from Lexington, Virginia scored eight goals with four ground balls, one caused turnover, and one draw control in the Knights' lone contest last week, a 20-5 win over USA South foe Brevard. Also Nominated: Brynly ManWaring, Greensboro; Reese Walker, Meredith; Lovette Choloh, Piedmont; Mary Langer, William Peace; Skyla Jo Charette, Pfeiffer.

    Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week
    Kennedy Martin, Methodist - The senior midfielder from Wilmington, North Carolina totaled nine caused turnovers, nine draw controls and eight ground balls, to go along with five goals scored and two assists, as the Monarchs posted a 1-1 record last week against USA South foes. In a 23-0 win over William Peace, Martin caused five turnovers with four ground balls and three draw controls. In a 11-10 loss at Piedmont, Martin totaled four caused turnovers, four ground balls, and six draw controls.     Makenzie Mickelsen, Southern Virginia - The freshman midfielder from Garland, Utah totaled seven points on six goal and one assist with nine draw controls, two caused turnovers, and one ground ball in the Knights' lone contest last week, a 20-5 win over USA South foe Brevard.   • Men's Tennis Player of the Week
    Diego Segovia, N.C. Wesleyan - The senior from San Gabriel, Venezuela posted a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Hayden LeBlanc from USA South foe Brevard at the number-one singles position in his only match last week for the Battling Bishops. Also Nominated: Matthew Hurley, Methodist; Justin Giesbrecht, Pfeiffer; Mason Pitcher, Southern Virginia.

    Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week
    Jared Pitcher, Southern Virginia - The freshman from Bismarck, North Dakota posted wins at the number-two singles and the number-one doubles spots last week against opponents from USA South foe William Peace in the lone match for the Knights. Pitcher teamed with Mason Pitcher for the doubles victory. Also Nominated: Aissultan Mukhambetov, Pfeiffer; Ethan Carlyle, Methodist.

    Men's Tennis Doubles Team of the Week
    Luca Knese and Albert Sitwell, N.C. Wesleyan - The Battling Bishop duo earned a 6-1 win over the top doubles squad from Brevard last week in their lone match for the Battling Bishops. Also Nominated: Matthew Hurley and Decklan Rayner, Methodist; Jared Pitcher and Mason Pitcher, Southern Virginia.

    Emma Hulicki, Methodist - The sophomore from Raleigh, North Carolina posted wins at the number-one singles and the number-two doubles spots last week against opponents from USA South foe Brevard in the lone match for the Monarchs.     Sarah Amato, Southern Virginia - The freshman from Avon Lake, Ohio posted a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Mariana Faint from USA South foe Salem at the number-three singles position in her only match last week for the Knights.     Women's Tennis Doubles Team of the Week
    Remly Fry and Paula Snelson, Southern Virginia - The Knight duo earned a 7-5 victory over opponents from USA South foe Salem at the number-one position in their only match last week for the Knights. Also Nominated: Hannah Jo Jablonski and Cate Reilly, Meredith; Emma Hulicki and Annabelle Subirats, Methodist; Andrea Elaez Miranda and Ivanna Torres, N.C.   • Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week
    Dylan May, Southern Virginia - The senior from Buena Vista, Virginia competed in two events at the Lynchburg Craddock Coaches Classic last week. In the 5,000 meters, May set a new program record by running a personal best time of 14:27.19. He also set a new personal best in the 800 meters with a time of 1:56.49.     Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week
    Jeremiah Freeman, Methodist - The junior from Sanford, North Carolina competed in one field event at the Lynchburg Craddock Coaches Classic last week, setting a personal best mark of 13.91 meters in the triple jump. Freeman also competed in the 100 meters. Also Nominated: Parker Arnold, Southern Virginia.

    Men's Outdoor Track Rookie of the Week
    Ethan Byerly, Pfeiffer - The freshman from Denton, North Carolina competed in two events at the Lynchburg Craddock Coaches Classic last week. In the 800 meters, Byerly set a program record with a time of 1:56.89. He also was a member of the 4x400 meter relay team. Also Nominated: Jalen Williams, Southern Virginia.

    Men's Outdoor Field Rookie of the Week
    Drake Stewart, Pfeiffer - The freshman from Greenville, South Carolina competed in one field event at the Lynchburg Craddock Coaches Classic last week, posting a best effort of 6.78 meters in the long jump. Stewart also competed in the 400 meter hurdles, the 100 meters, and the 200 meters. Also Nominated: Joseph Butler, Methodist; Damarion Bonds, Southern Virginia.

  • Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week
    Kamiyah Wooten, N.C. Wesleyan - The sophomore from Farmville, North Carolina competed in three events at the Mount Olive Trojan Relays last week. In the 100 meters, Wooten came in at 11.93 and finished the 400 meters in a time of 55.81. Wooten was also a member of the 4x100 meter relay team. Also Nominated: Abrianna Casarez, Meredith; Heidi Barton, Southern Virginia; Maddie Hladik, Pfeiffer.

    Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week
    Paris Bennett, Pfeiffer - The sophomore from New London, North Carolina competed in two events at the Lynchburg Craddock Coaches Classic last week. In the discus, Bennett's best throw was 34.50 meters while her best effort in the shot put traveled 10.21 meters. Also Nominated: Athena Mowatt, Meredith; Treazure Rosario Watson, Methodist; Jilane Pedersen, Southern Virginia.

    Women's Outdoor Track Rookie of the Week
    KeSondra Pickett, N.C. Wesleyan - The freshman from Rocky Mount, North Carolina competed in three events at the Mount Olive Trojan Relays last week. In the 100 meters, Pickett came in at 12.67 and finished the 400 meters in a time of 1:02.19. Pickett was also a member of the 4x100 meter relay team.     Women's Outdoor Field Rookie of the Week
    Marin Simons, Southern Virginia - The freshman from Silt, Colorado, competed in the high jump at the Lynchburg Craddock Coaches Classic last week posted a best effort of 1.60 meters. Also Nominated: Athena Mowatt, Meredith.
