USA South Athletes of the Week - April 7, 2025

  • Baseball Player of the Week
    Hunter Huneycutt, Pfeiffer - The sophomore from Laurinburg, North Carolina went a combined 10-for-19 (.526) with a .550 on-base percentage, and a 1.053 slugging percentage to go along with five runs scored, four RBI, one double, three home runs, and one walk last week for the Falcons. In a 13-1 loss to second-ranked Lynchburg, Huneycutt was 1-for-4 with a double. In three-games against USA South foe Greensboro, Huneycutt was a combined 8-for-15 with five runs scored, four RBI, three home runs, and one walk.     Baseball Pitcher of the Week
    Carson Bybee, Southern Virginia - The junior from Portland, Oregon appeared in three games, all in relief, earning one win while pitching seven scoreless innings. Bybee allowed just one hit and one walk with five strikeouts during the week, collecting a win over USA South foe Mary Baldwin after tossing four one-hit innings of relief.     Baseball Rookie of the Week
    Conner Robley, Southern Virginia - The freshman centerfielder from Highland, Utah went a combined 7-for-17 (.412) with a .524 on-base percentage, and a .647 slugging percentage to go along with six runs scored, three RBI, one double, one home run, four walks, and four stolen bases. In a 10-9 loss to Washington & Lee, Robley was 2-for-5 with one run scored, one double, one walk, and one stolen base. In taking two of three games from USA South foe Mary Baldwin, Robley was a combined 5-for-12 with five runs scored, three RBI, one home run, three walks, and three stolen bases.     Baseball Rookie Pitcher of the Week
    Ian Swanson, Methodist - The freshman from Tallahassee, Florida appeared in one game last week, a victory against USA South foe Brevard. Swanson tossed the first six innings and allowed three runs on six hits with three walks and seven strikeouts. Also Nominated: Nick Neubauer, Greensboro.

  • Softball Player of the Week
    Ashbee Standridge, Meredith - The sophomore from Creedmoor, North Carolina went a combined 10-for-20 (.500) with a .478 on-base percentage, and a .850 slugging percentage to go along with five runs scored, 12 RBI, one double, two home runs, and one walk in a 6-0 week for the Avenging Angels against USA South opposition. In a doubleheader sweep of Methodist, Standridge was a combined 2-for-8 with one run scored and one walk. In a doubleheader sweep of William Peace, Standridge was a combined 5-for-6 with three runs scored, five RBI, one double, and a home run. Finally, in a doubleheader sweep of Salem, Standridge was a combined 3-for-6 with one run scored and seven RBI.     Softball Pitcher of the Week
    Ella Ebert, Greensboro - The junior from Buffalo, Minnesota appeared and started in two games last week for the Pride, each against USA South foes, posting a 2-0 record without allowing a run. In 12.0 total innings, Ebert allowed eight hits and five walks with 11 strikeouts. Ebert's wins came over Methodist, with a five-inning performance, as well as N.C. Wesleyan,  in complete-game shutout fashion. Also Nominated: Logan Masinsky, Brevard; Lillie Davis, Meredith; Morgan Aycock, N.C. Wesleyan; Abby Southern, Southern Virginia; Emma Bullin, Pfeiffer.

    Softball Rookie of the Week
    Taelor Ware, Southern Virginia - The freshman from Keezletown, Virginia went a combined 7-for-19 (.368) with a .400 on-base percentage, and a .789 slugging percentage to go along with three runs scored, seven RBI, two doubles, two home runs, and one walk in a 3-3 week for the Knights against USA South competition. In a doubleheader sweep of Salem, Ware was a combined 3-for-6 with two runs scored, four RBI, one home run, and one walk. In two losses to 24th-ranked Pfeiffer, Ware was hitless. Finally, in a doubleheader split with Brevard, Ware was a combined 4-for-7 with one run scored, three RBI, one double, and one home run.     Softball Rookie Pitcher of the Week
    Kaylee Manning, Meredith - The freshman from Rocky Mount, Virginia appeared in three games last week for the Avenging Angels, each against USA South foes, posting a 3-0 record with a 1.19 ERA. In 17.2 total innings, Manning allowed five runs (three earned) on eight hits with 12 walks and 12 strikeouts. Manning tossed two complete-games included a three-hit shutout of Salem.   • Men's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week
    Ethan Miles, Pfeiffer - The sophomore attackman from Charlotte, North Carolina totaled seven points on five goals and two assists, to go along with one ground ball and one caused turnover in the team's lone contest last week, an 18-6 win at USA South foe Piedmont. Also Nominated: Justin Barry, Greensboro; Tyson Mauri, Southern Virginia; Cy Horner, Methodist; Jamar Bell, William Peace.

    Men's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week
    Lee Caldwell, Pfeiffer - The graduate student faceoff specialist from Greenville, South Carolina was 13-for-16 (.813) at the “X”, with one ground ball, for the Falcons in the team's lone contest last week, an 18-6 win at USA South foe Piedmont. Also Nominated: Jake Bandler, Methodist; JT Cutrer, Southern Virginia; Nathan Fox, Greensboro; Mike Eisele, Piedmont; Dylan Sullivan, William Peace.

    Men's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week
    Pierce Brinton, Southern Virginia - The freshman midfielder from North Ogden, Utah totaled five points on three goals and two assists to go along with two ground balls and two caused turnovers in the team's lone contest last week, a 19-13 win over USA South foe William Peace. Also Nominated: Quinn Acree, William Peace; Jay Legg, Methodist.

  • Women's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week
    Reese Walker, Meredith - The junior attacker from Fayetteville, North Carolina totaled 16 points on seven goals and nine assists, with six caused turnovers, two ground balls, and one draw control as the Avenging Angels posted a 2-0 record last week against USA South foes. In a 21-4 win over Methodist, Walker scored four times with four assists, four caused turnovers, and one ground ball. In a 20-9 victory over Southern Virginia, Walker totaled three goals, five assists, two caused turnovers, one ground ball, and one draw control.     Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week
    Rosanna Espinosa-Ponce, Greensboro - The senior midfielder from Winston-Salem, North Carolina totaled ten caused turnovers, seven ground balls, and 18 draw controls, to go along with 16 goals scored and two assists, as the Pride posted a 2-1 record last week. In a 19-11 loss to Warren Wilson, Espinosa-Ponce caused four turnovers with one ground ball and five draw controls. In a 19-5 win over USA South foe Pfeiffer, Espinosa-Ponce totaled five caused turnovers, six ground balls, and six draw controls. Finally, in a 16-14 victory over USA South rival Huntingdon, Espinosa-Ponce contributed one caused turnover and seven draw controls.     Women's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week
    Brynly ManWaring, Greensboro - The freshman midfielder from Greenville, South Carolina totaled 27 points on 15 goals and 12 assists to go along with 13 draw controls, nine caused turnovers, and eight ground balls in a 2-1 week for the Pride. In a 19-11 loss to Warren Wilson, ManWaring totaled five goals, two assists, seven draw controls, and three caused turnovers. In a 19-5 win over USA South foe Pfeiffer, ManWaring scored another five goals with six assists, five ground balls, four caused turnovers, and three draw controls. Finally, in a 16-14 victory over USA South rival Huntingdon, ManWaring once again scored five times with four assists, three ground balls, three draw controls, and two caused turnovers.   • Men's Tennis Player of the Week
    Matthew Hurley, Methodist - The junior from Faulconbridge, New South Wales, Australia posted a 2-0 singles record with a 1-1 doubles mark last week for the Monarchs. In singles, at the number-one spot, Hurley defeated opponents from USA South foe Southern Virginia as well as Randolph. In doubles, at the number-one position, he teamed with Decklan Rayner to grab a win over Southern Virginia. Also Nominated: Hayden LeBlanc, Brevard; Luca Knese, N.C. Wesleyan.

    Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week
    Jared Pitcher, Southern Virginia - The freshman from Bismarck, North Dakota posted a 1-1 singles and doubles record last week for the Knights against USA South foes. Pitcher earned his wins over opposition Mary Baldwin, both at the number-two singles spot and the number-one doubles position, teaming with Mason Pitcher. Also Nominated: Aissultan Mukhambetov, Pfeiffer; Carlos Correa, William Peace.

    Men's Tennis Doubles Team of the Week
    Luca Knese and Albert Sitwell, N.C. Wesleyan - The Battling Bishop duo earned a 3-1 record last week at the number-one doubles spot. The two grabbed wins over opposition from USA South foe Pfeiffer, tenth-ranked Emory, and 15th-ranked Johns Hopkins. Also Nominated: Drew Guarnieri and Cameron Roth, Methodist.

  • Women's Tennis Player of the Week
    Paula Snelson, Southern Virginia - The senior from Brasilia, Brazil earned a 2-0 singles and doubles record at the number-one spots last week for the Knights in wins over USA South foes Mary Baldwin and Methodist. In singles, Snelson earned two 6-0, 6-0 wins while in doubles, she teamed with Jillian Arnold for the victories. Also Nominated: Hannah Jo Jablonski, Meredith; Andrea Elaez Miranda, N.C. Wesleyan; Riley Isley, Pfeiffer; Adley Keim, Salem.

    Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week
    Fanny Apostolou, Pfeiffer - The freshman from Venezuela earned a 2-0 singles and doubles record last week for the Falcons. In singles, Apostolou grabbed wins at the number-four spot over opposition from USA South foes Brevard and N.C. Wesleyan. In doubles, she teamed with Haley Ingenito to earn the two victories. Also Nominated: Cymone Crump, Salem; Madelyn Parker, Methodist.

    Women's Tennis Doubles Team of the Week
    Jillian Arnold and Paula Snelson, Southern Virginia - The Knight duo earned a 2-0 record at the number-one spot last week in victories over opposition from USA South foes Mary Baldwin and Methodist. Also Nominated: Haley Ingenito and Fanny Apostolou, Pfeiffer; Bethan Fothergill and Renata Torres, N.C. Wesleyan.

  • Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week
    Tydrick Stewart, Methodist - The sophomore from Fayetteville, North Carolina competed in two events at the UNC-Pembroke Braves Classic last week. In the 100 meters, Stewart posted a new personal record time of 10.56 which is also the 17th best mark in Division III so far this year. He also was a member of the 4x100 meter relay team. Also Nominated: Shevaun Daley, Pfeiffer; Dylan May, Southern Virginia.

    Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week
    Nolan Opp, Southern Virginia - The senior from Clearwater, Florida competed at the William and Mary Colonial Relays last week by breaking a seven-year old program record in the javelin. His effort of 57.60 meters is the top throw so far this season in the USA South and in the region. Also Nominated: Cameron Eubanks, Brevard.

    Men's Outdoor Track Rookie of the Week
    Jordan Jones, Pfeiffer - The freshman from Gastonia, North Carolina competed in two events at the High Point VertKlasse Meeting last week, setting two new personal bests. In the 100 meters, Jones finished in a time of 10.94 while in the 200 meters, he completed the race in a time of 22.68. Also Nominated: Zeke Newman, Southern Virginia.

    Men's Outdoor Field Rookie of the Week
    Cameron Eubanks, Brevard - The freshman from Lexington, North Carolina competed in three events at the Brevard Tornado Classic last week. In the shot put, Eubanks had a best throw of 15.10 meters. In the hammer throw, Eubanks' best effort was 38.02 meters while in the discus he had a throw of 38.64 meters.   • Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week
    Kamiyah Wooten, N.C. Wesleyan - The sophomore from Farmville, North Carolina competed in four events at the Tennessee Invitational last week. In the 100 meters, Wooten came in at 11.80 which tops the USA South and is six in Division III this season. In the 200 meters, Wooten posted the fastest time in Division III this season, 23.74. In the 400 meters, Wooten finished in a time of 58.12 while also participating as a member of the 4x100 meter relay team. Also Nominated: Channing Barker, Brevard; Abigail Clayton, Meredith; Heidi Barton, Southern Virginia.

    Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week
    Treazure Rosario Watson, Methodist - The junior from Zebulon, North Carolina competed in three events at the UNC-Pembroke Braves Classic last week. In her lone field event, the triple jump, Rosario Watson set a new personal best with a jump of 11.45 meters. She also was a member of the 4x100 and the 4x400 meter relay teams. Also Nominated: Imani Singleton, Brevard; Athena Mowatt, Meredith; Katrina Gardner, Southern Virginia.

    Women's Outdoor Track Rookie of the Week
    Abigail Clayton, Meredith - The freshman from Albermarle, North Carolina competed in two events at the High Point VertKlasse Meeting last week, setting two new program records. In the 200 meters, Clayton finished in a time of 26.09 while in the 400 meters, her time was 59.55. Also Nominated: Sarah Bare, Brevard; D'Zariya Paran, Methodist; Mesiyah Howell, Pfeiffer; Maia Hunt, Southern Virginia.

    Women's Outdoor Field Rookie of the Week
    Marin Simons, Southern Virginia - The freshman from Silt, Colorado, competed set a new program record in the high jump at the William and Mary Colonial Relays last week. Simons posted an effort of 1.66 meters which is the best mark in the USA South and the region so far this season. Also Nominated: Athena Mowatt, Meredith.
