N.C. Wesleyan Wins USA South Men's Soccer Title

(ROCKY MOUNT, N.C.) - The 2025 USA South Men's Soccer Tournament championship took place on the campus of N.C. Wesleyan University on Saturday, November 8 as the second-seeded host Battling Bishops defended fifth-seeded Methodist, 3-2, in overtime. This is the fifth tournament title in N.C. Wesleyan men's soccer program history and the first since 2019.

N.C. Wesleyan did not take long to net the first goal as Corentin Solitaire converted a penalty kick in the seventh minute. That would be the only shot on net during the first half as the Battling Bishops took a one-goal lead into the break.

Methodist responded quickly in the second half as, just over three minutes in, Angel Alarcon tied the game with a goal. The Monarchs looked poised to take the championship after Carson Stretz put them in front in the 83rd minute but Solitaire would strike again to knot the game at 2-2 and force extra time.

In the fourth minute of overtime, N.C. Wesleyan's Nicolas Sautua gained control of the ball deep in the Monarch zone which he maneuvered around a defender and hammered into the back of the net for the championship-winning score.
