The USA South Athletic Conference has announced its 2025 All-Conference awards for women's soccer. Individually, the Brevard trio of Mikayla Zvekan, Abby Nunez, and Juan Mascaro were named Player of the Year, Goalkeeper of the Year, and Coach of the Year, respectively. Southern Virginia's Delin Peterson was selected as Rookie of the Year to round out the individual honors. Additionally, the USA South recognized an All-Sportsmanship Team, consisting of one member from each competing school who their coach felt displayed the best sportsmanship this season.
All awards were voted on by the women's soccer coach at each institution.
Zvekan, a senior forward from Draper, Utah, becomes the first Brevard women's soccer student-athlete to be named USA South Player of the Year. Zvekan was second in all three major offensive categories within the USA South during the regular season with 44 points on 18 goals and eight assists. Standing out above the rest, however, were her nine regular season game-winning-goals which were six more than the next League player's total. Against Conference foes, Zvekan led the League with five game-winning-goals while also being ranked third in points (23) and tied for second in goals scored (11). For her efforts this season, Zvekan was named a First Team All-Conference performer for the second straight fall while also earning USA South Player of the Week honors twice.
Peterson, a freshman forward from Queen Creek, Arizona, becomes the first Southern Virginia women's soccer student-athlete to be named USA South Rookie of the Year. During the regular season, Peterson led all rookies and ranked in the top-three in the League in the top scoring categories with 40 points (third), 16 goals (third), and eight assists (t-second). In Conference action, Peterson had a League-best 30 points on a USA South-high 13 goals to go along with four assists. For her efforts this fall, Peterson was named a First Team All-Conference forward as well as USA South Player and Rookie of the Week three times.
Nunez, a junior from Homestead, Florida, becomes the first women's soccer student-athlete to be named USA South Goalkeeper of the Year in consecutive seasons. In 873 regular season minutes played, Nunez compiled a perfect 12-0-0 record while leading the League in goals allowed (3), goals-against-average (0.31), and save percentage (.914) to go along with four shutouts. In Conference action only, Nunez posted USA South-bests of a 0.45 goals-against-average and a .893 save percentage with two shutouts. In addition to her standout play in net, Nunez also assisted on a goal. For her efforts, Nunez was named the First Team All-Conference goalkeeper for the second consecutive year and three times picked up USA South Defensive Player of the Week honors this year.
Mascaro, in his tenth year as Brevard's head coach, collects USA South Coach of the Year accolades for the second consecutive season. This fall, he led his team to the program's second straight USA South regular season title, compiling a perfect 9-0-0 record. It is the second year in a row that the Tornados have finished Conference play without a loss. Overall, Brevard concluded the regular season with a 16-0-0 record, becoming the first USA South women's soccer program to finish unbeaten and untied prior to postseason play since Maryville was 11-0-0 during the COVID-shortened spring of 2021 season. Prior to that, it was Greensboro in 2018 who also concluded regular season play 16-0-0. The Tornados led the Conference with 13 shutouts during the regular season, allowing just three goals in 16 games played, good for a 0.19 goals against average.
