's "50 Years in 50 Weeks" - 1966-67

(FAYETTEVILLE, NC) - The 2013-14 season serves as the 50th for the USA South Athletic Conference. In an effort to relive 50 Years of League memories, the USA South has produced "50 Years in 50 Weeks", a weekly chronicle of some of the great moments in Conference history.

Each week, a year of moments will be released on the USA South's website. To view previous entries, click the appropriate year at the bottom of the screen.

1966 - 1967

  • Men’s Soccer is first sponsored by the Conference and Lynchburg captures the championship.

  • Wrestling is first introduced to the Conference as St. Andrews wins the first of its four titles.

  • Jim Darden of Methodist ties the record for most free throws made in a Men’s Basketball Tournament with 28, a record that still stands today.

  • St. Andrews wins the first of three consecutive bowling regular season titles.

 
Greensboro College (then known as the Hornets)
joins the Conference.

 
N.C. Wesleyan’s Harold Sutton grabs 22 rebounds in a
Men’s Basketball Tournament game, a mark that has yet to be eclipsed.
