2025 USA South Volleyball Awards Announced

The USA South Athletic Conference has announced its 2025 All-Conference awards for volleyball. Individually, the Greensboro trio of Payton Shiflet, Morgan Mayfield, and Dan Bozarth were named Player of the Year, Libero of the Year, and Coach of the Year, respectively. Methodist's Addison Johnson was named Rookie of the Year to round out the individual awards. Additionally, the USA South recognized an All-Sportsmanship Team, consisting of one member from each competing school who their coach felt displayed the best sportsmanship this season.

All awards were voted on by the volleyball coach at each institution.

Shiflet, a senior outside hitter from Asheboro, North Carolina, becomes the second Greensboro student-athlete (Katie Smith, 2004 and 2005) to be a two-time USA South Player of the Year in the sport of volleyball. Shiflet adds this second honor to a Rookie of the Year accolade from the 2022 campaign. During the regular season, Shiflet led the conference averaging 5.19 points and 4.69 kills per set while adding 2.90 digs per set and totaling 24 service aces, 18 blocks, and 11 assists. The kills per set average currently ranks eighth in all of Division III. Against USA South opponents, Shiflet's averages rose to a League-leading 5.49 points and 4.96 kills per set to go along with 3.05 digs. Shiflet earns First Team All-Conference accolades for the third time in her career along with being named USA South Player of the Week three times during the fall.

Johnson, a freshman outside hitter from Laurinburg, North Carolina, becomes the first Methodist student-athlete to be named USA South Rookie of the Year in the sport of volleyball. At the conclusion of the regular season, Johnson ranked eighth in the Conference, averaging 2.73 kills per set while her total of 309 kills was the seventh-most. She also averaged 1.90 digs per set with 26 total blocks. Against USA South foes, Johnson led all rookies by averaging 3.22 kills per set and 209 total put aways while also raising her defensive numbers to 2.57 digs per set. For her efforts this season, Johnson received Honorable Mention All-Conference honors while being named USA South Rookie of the week twice.

Mayfield, a junior libero from Mt. Airy, North Carolina, becomes just the third USA South volleyball student-athlete to be named Libero of the Year in consecutive seasons. She also continues to be the lone player in League history to earn both a Rookie of the Year and now two Libero of the Year honors in a career. Mayfield led the Conference, and currently sits seventh in all of Division III, averaging 5.98 digs per set during the regular season. Additionally, Mayfield contributed 89 assists which was good for a 1.00 per set average during regular season play. Against Conference foes this fall, Mayfield led the League in total digs (378) and digs per set (6.30). Finally, Mayfield was named a First Team All-Conference honoree, after second team nods the last two years, and selected USA South Defensive Player of the Week six times.

Bozarth, in the first year leading Greensboro, earns his first USA South Volleyball Coach of the Year honor. After the coaches in their preseason USA South poll selected the Pride to place second, Greensboro posted an undefeated 18-0 mark in Conference play to earn the program's ninth USA South regular season title, its first since 2005. The unblemished League record is the first since Maryville posted a 16-0 mark in 2021. The 18 wins against USA South foes ties the Conference record as Christopher Newport accomplished the feat five years in a row (2007-2011). Overall, Greensboro concluded the regular season with a 26-2 overall record, the most wins since the 2010 squad finished 27-9. Finally, Bozarth's team led the League in points per set (17.30), assists per set (12.04), kills per set (13.01), and service aces per set (2.47) during the regular season.
