(Greensboro, N.C. & Misenheimer, N.C.) - The USA South Baseball three-team double-elimination tournaments are underway with first day action, hosted by Greensboro and Pfeiffer.
In games hosted by Greensboro, in the first game of the day, fifth-seeded William Peace upended fourth-seeded N.C. Wesleyan, 5-3. In game two, the top-seed, and host, Pride eliminated the Battling Bishops with an 11-5 victory. Greensboro and William Peace are both still undefeated and will play a doubleheader tomorrow, May 1. If one team sweeps, they will win the bracket. If the two teams split the games, a winner-take-all contest will be played on Saturday, May 2.
On the Pfeiffer campus, the first contest saw sixth-seeded Southern Virginia upset third-seeded Methodist, 8-2. In game two, another upset occurred as the Monarchs rebounded to defeat the top-seeded Falcons, 11-3. All three teams remain alive in the bracket as Southern Virginia will try to eliminate Pfeiffer to open the day tomorrow. Regardless of the outcome, Southern Virginia will play Methodist in the second game. If the two teams still remain after tomorrow, a winner-take-all contest will be played on Saturday, May 2.
