USA South Athletes of the Week - September 1, 2025

  • Men's Soccer Player of the Week
    Jade Diane, Greensboro - The freshman forward from Mönchengladbach, Germany scored twice with one assist in the team's lone contest last week, an 8-1 win over Carolina Christian. Diane assisted on the first goal of the match, scored the eventual game-winning goal in the seventh minute, and followed that by another score in the 13th minute. Also Nominated: Santiago Escobar, William Peace; Steven Floyd, Methodist; Max Diaz Elizarde, N.C. Wesleyan; Wesley Hooker, Pfeiffer.

    Men's Soccer Defender of the Week
    Alvaro Hermosa, Greensboro - The Valladolid, Spain junior goalkeeper posted 45 minutes of shutout play in the team's lone contest last week, an 8-1 win over Carolina Christian. Hermosa played all of the first half, stopping all seven shots faced. Also Nominated: Joey Hurley, William Peace; Joel McGinnes, N.C. Wesleyan; Seth Limbert, Pfeiffer.

    Women's Soccer Defender of the Week
    Grace Walls, N.C. Wesleyan - The Moyock, North Carolina sophomore goalkeeper posted a shutout in the team's lone contest last week, a scoreless draw against defending NCCAA National Champions, Bob Jones.     Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week
    Shyann Hansen, Greensboro - The Elkridge, Maryland freshman goalkeeper posted 84 minutes of shutout play in the team's lone contest last week, a 3-0 win over Eastern Mennonite. Hansen stopped all four shots faced as she was substituted out with six minutes to play. Also Nominated: Emma Jolliff, Meredith; Lily Bido, Pfeiffer; Michaela Iapaluccio, Salem.

  • Volleyball Player of the Week
    Aubrey Packer, Southern Virginia - The sophomore outside hitter from Bowling Green, Kentucky averaged 4.36 kills and 2.82 digs per set as the Knights posted a 3-0 record last week with wins over Spalding, Covenant, and George Fox. Packer posted two double-doubles and had week match-highs of 19 kills, 12 digs, four blocks, three service aces, and one assist (twice).     Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week
    Morgan Mayfield, Greensboro - The junior libero from Mount Airy, North Carolina averaged 5.67 digs per set as the Pride posted a 2-0 record last week with wins over Warren Wilson and St. Mary's (Md.). Mayfield had week match-highs of 19 digs, five assists, and two service aces (twice).     Volleyball Rookie of the Week
    Emilee Wilson, N.C. Wesleyan - The freshman setter from Winterville, North Carolina averaged 6.70 assists, 3.30 digs, and 2.33 service aces, and 1.40 kills per set as the Battling Bishops posted a 3-0 record last week with wins over Mary Baldwin, Penn State Du Bois, and Regent. Wilson posted two double-doubles to go along with week match-highs of 39 assists, 17 digs, five kills (twice), five service aces, and one block.   • Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week
    Joseph Hughes, Southern Virginia - The Las Vegas, Nevada junior placed first out of 33 runners at the Eastern Mennonite Heritage Invitational last week. Hughes completed the 5,000-meter course in a time of 16:27. Also Nominated: Ethan Carlan, Brevard.

    Men's Cross Country Rookie of the Week
    Taylor Weiland, Southern Virginia - The Denton, Texas freshman placed first out of 33 runners at the Eastern Mennonite Heritage Invitational last week. Weiland completed the 5,000-meter course in a time of 16:28. Also Nominated: None.

  • Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week
    Delaney Bundy, Meredith - The Cary, North Carolina junior placed 29th out of 104 runners at the Elon Friday Night Lights Invitational last week. Bundy completed the 4,000-meter course in a time of 14:52. Also Nominated: Emma Hillam, Southern Virginia.

    Women's Cross Country Rookie of the Week
    Kaylee Horner, Southern Virginia - The Springfield, Virginia freshman placed sixth out of 38 runners at the Eastern Mennonite Heritage Invitational last week. Horner completed the 5,000-meter course in a time of 19:48. Also Nominated: Kaia Ramsey, Meredith.
